Acolgen spoke about the role of renewable energies in energy generation.
The association highlighted that 79.06% of energy generation was through renewable sources in January this year, Valora Analitik reported.
The association explained that the main generation sources were hydrological, wind, solar, bagasse and biogas.
However, energy demand levels in Colombia fell 2.5% in January 2021 compared to December of last year.
The water reservoirs level reached 68.35% during January 2021.
Acolgen’s Natalia Gutiérrez said that new investments to reactivate the sector will be key by the end of 2021.
“The country expects investments in generation projects for around CoP$8T, creating employment, well-being and progress in different regions of Colombia,” Gutiérrez said.
The association said that the average price of contracts for regulated users increased 4.5%, while for unregulated users rose 2.1%.
“We want to highlight that our companies have been superior to the pandemic’s challenges, guaranteeing the energy supply throughout the country,” Gutiérrez concluded.
Bottom-Line: Colombia has a clean energy matrix because hydro generation is the main source. However, the country is vulnerable to weather phenomena such as ‘El Niño’.
Boosting the growth of solar, wind and biogas energy, among others, will be essential to have a more solid and reliable energy matrix.
