Electric vehicle market in March

The National Association for Sustainable Mobility (Andemos) published its monthly report on the behavior of the hybrid and electric vehicle market in March 2021. Here are the details.

Sales of these type of vehicles increased 206% during in March 2021, compared to same period in the previous year, Andemos said.

This metric went from 326 vehicles in March 2020 to 998 during March 2021.

Andemos said that 774 Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV)were sold during March 2021, while sales were 185 same period last year. The industry sold 134 Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and 90 Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) in March this year.

It is important to recall that sales were 6,011 vehicles in 2020, 91.8% more compared to the previous year (3,134). This metric has been 2,742 during this year, 163% more compared to 1Q20.

In March 2021, the best-selling brands were Toyota (419), Mercedez Benz (166), and KIA (127), which increased their sales by 852%, 621% and 17% respectively compared to the third month of 2020.

Bottom-Line:  Sales continue to increase, and the challenge is to improve the charging infrastructure in the country at the same path.

Enel-Codensa has big plans in this issue, but the country needs more players betting on this segment.
