Andemos reported the market leaders in electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrids this year.
Toyota is the brand with the largest market share in the non-plug-in hybrid segment, La Republica reported.
The company registered close to 4,444 units sold in the first eight months of the year, more than 44.13% of the total units sold in the market.
“Since the beginning of the year, we have identified a good sales performance in the hybrid and passenger segments,” Dino Tanaka, President of Automotores Toyota Colombia, said.
Mercedes Benz is the leader in the case of plug-in hybrids, with 501 units sold during this year.
“We see how more and more customers are leaning towards the GLC, which is our plug-in hybrid available in Colombia, as they are looking for cleaner technologies and are gradually starting to leave aside 100% combustion engines,” Manuel Perilla, Mercedes-Benz product manager for Colombia, said.
The Electric Vehicles category reported sales of 655 this year, which means 21.2% more compared to same period last year.
BYD is to date the leading brand in this category with 236 units sold, 402% more compared to same period last year.
“We are pleasantly surprised, since we have a 42% market share in the 100% electric vehicle segment for the year to date. We will finish with that percentage this year and we also plan to venture into other segments, such as hybrids by 2022,” Marco Pastrana, Motorysa Division Manager, said.
Bottom-Line: Colombians are showing their interest in switching to cleaner alternatives and the increasing sales of EVs and hydrids are clear proof of this.
The government along with the industry must work to improve the charging infrastructure, as this is one of the main concerns of Colombians when buying one of these vehicles.
