The Minister of Mines and Energy (MinEnergia), Diego Mesa, spoke about upcoming auctions for battery storage.
Mesa told Valora Analitik that the country will have more rounds of auctions for battery storage.
“The idea is that now it becomes an asset for the tenders run by the UPME in transmission systems, both regional and local. These types of auctions will continue to be held more periodically,” Mesa highlighted.
The official highlighted that the last auction was the first large-scale storage auction in Latin America. He added that the financial sector looks favorably on this type of projects because they are profitable for the market.
It is important to remember that the first auction of the Battery Electric Energy Storage System (SAEB) ended with a winner.
The goal of this auction is to have a system of 50MW batteries for energy storage to strengthen the electricity transmission network of the Caribbean Coast.
Bottom-Line: This announcement generates positive expectations to continue improving the quality of energy service in Colombia.
