The government presented the roadmap for the implementation of hydrogen as clean energy for the next 30 years. Companies and associations showed interest in participating in this process.

Eight companies and associations delivered a document to the government in which they expressed their interest in participating in the implementation of this plan, La Republica reported.

The signatories were Ecopetrol (NYSE: EC), Grupo Energia Bogota (GEB), Transportadora de Gas Internacional (TGI), Promigas, ENGIE, Siemens Energy, Porsche Colombia, Daimler Colombia, the World Energy Council and the Colombian Hydrogen Association.

“We are convinced that hydrogen will play a crucial role in the energy transition as an engine of economic and social development of the country, we recognize the importance of joint work between the public and private sectors, as well as cooperation between nations to achieve significant progress towards the goals of decarbonization,” the companies and associations said in a statement.

It is important to remember that the government included this technology as an Unconventional Source of Renewable Energy, by which it wants to diversify the country’s renewable matrix.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MinEnergia) highlighted that the country has a great potential to generate hydrogen, since La Guajira alone has a potential to generate more than 3GW of green hydrogen.

Bottom-Line: Undoubtedly, joining forces between the private sector, associations and the public sector will be fundamental to advance in the development of hydrogen in Colombia. This is a long-term bet, but it is already arousing interest among large investors.
