Energy demand in August

XM, operator of the National Interconnected System (SIN) and administrator of the Wholesale Energy Market (MEM), reported on the behavior of this metric in August 2021.

Energy demand increased 5.9% to 6,346Wh in August 2021 compared to same period last year (5,990GWh), XM said in a statement.

This metric decrease 0.49% compared to previous month.

The Operator explained that the regulated market represented 68.24% of the total demand in August; this metric was 4,312GWh in August 2021, while it was 4,134GWh during the same period previous year.

The unregulated market represented the remaining 31.76% of the demand, increasing 9.52% to 2,007GWh in the same period.

East reported a 15.97% increase in energy demand during August 2021; followed by Guaviare (10.28%), Antioquia (8.98%), the THC (Tolima, Huila and Caqueta) region 8.48%%, Choco (5.75%), the CQR (Caldas, Quindio and Risaralda) (5.68%), Valle (4.86%), Caribbean (4.8%), South (3.83%), and Center (1.21%).

Bottom-Line: Demand continue to show a positive behavior, after the national strike, demonstrating the reactivation is taking root.
