XM, operator of the National Interconnected System (SIN) and administrator of the Wholesale Energy Market (MEM), reported on the behavior of this metric in September 2021.

Energy demand increased 7.28% to 6,308Wh in September 2021 compared to same period last year (5,880GWh), XM said in a statement.

This metric decrease 0.60% compared to previous month.

The agency explained that the regulated market represented 67.78% of the total demand in September; this metric was 4,256GWh in September 2021, while it was 4,051GWh during the same period in the previous year.

The unregulated market represented the remaining 32.22% of the demand, increasing 12.45% to 2,022GWh in the same period.

Guaviare reported a 12.92% increase in energy demand during September 2021; followed by Caribbean (9.62%), East (9.47%), Antioquia (7.42%), Choco (6.92%), the CQR (Caldas, Quindio and Risaralda) (6.36%), Center (5.73%), South (4.14%), Valle (2.96%), and the THC (Tolima, Huila and Caqueta) region (1.36%).

Colombia exported 179.95 GWh to Ecuador in September, 595.4% more compared to the previous month (25.87GWh).

Bottom-Line: It seems like the economic reactivation is on the right track, and energy demand demonstrates it. However, authorities must avoid new strikes that could affect progress.
