The Governor’s Office of Atlantico announced that eight villages in the municipality of Campo de la Cruz and four more in the municipality of Manatí already have energy service.
These homes are part of the group of beneficiaries of the project ‘Energy for the People’ that seeks to bring this service, for the first time, to 1,400 families in the department, El Heraldo reported.
Governor Elsa Noguera made a visit to the benefited sectors. She said this announcement boosts the process of economic reactivation in rural areas of the department.
“We are advancing steadily with our Rural Electrification Project, which is key for the economic reactivation plan of the countryside. It generates economic and social development, diversifies the production of rural areas and favors the generation of employment and entrepreneurship,” Noguera said.
A total of 92 homes in the villages of Corterita, Porvenir, La Icotea, Los Troncos, La Caimanera, Párate Bien, Escobal and Palotal, in Campo de la Cruz, have benefited from the project. In this area, 18.74km of medium voltage network, 692 medium voltage poles and 54 transformers were installed, with an investment of CoP$3.9B.
The mayor of Campo de La Cruz, Richard Gómez, said that the municipality now has 90% coverage in energy service in the rural area.
“This will allow us to continue advancing in the countryside, where many have returned to their homes. Now the challenge is to make them productive,” Gómez said.
The electrification program is financed with resources from the Pro Rural Electrification fund with resources of CoP$50B.
