EPM announced that a new technical milestone was reached at Hidroituango.

The company managed to move a new spiral chamber and stationary ring to their final site at the power station. This will be fundamental in the goal of starting operations in the second half of 2022, Valora Analitik reported.

This corresponds to the start-up of what will be the second power generation unit.

The company had installed the first spiral chamber and stationary ring in July. These are pieces of equipment that have a hydraulic function, which serve for water transport and are important in the structural support of the complete generation unit.

The spiral chamber and stationary ring have a total weight of 250 tons, an external diameter of 15 meters and have the capacity to carry a nominal flow rate of 169 m3/sec.

After the transfer, this equipment will undergo a leveling process, a plug will be installed and a hydrostatic test or water pressure test will be performed in order to release it and continue with the civil works.

For the development of this activity from its planning, assembly and execution, 350 collaborators from EPM and different contractor companies participated, who worked for two and a half months on the assembly of the equipment.

Bottom-Line: Great news for the country, thinking about the entry into operation of this important project.

Colombia needs Hidroituango’s energy, and these advances clear a little the panorama about this project.
