Grupo Renovatio and ABO Wind announced a power purchase and sale agreement (PPA) for a 19.9 MW solar farm in Colombia.

The solar farm will avoid emissions of close to 200,000 tons of CO2, Portfolio reported.

This is the second PPA resulting from the first private renewable energy auction launched by Renovatio and includes the delivery of about 43GWh per year for 15 years starting in the second quarter of 2023.

Renovatio makes the entry of two solar parks into Colombia’s electricity generation matrix viable, consolidating the entry of two new multinational players listed on important European stock exchanges.

“We are very pleased with this second milestone of our auction that allows us to continue advancing in our vision of being the first 100% renewable energy provider in Colombia,” Renovatio’s Francisco Sanclemente said.

The expert said that the company once again proves its ability to innovate in the Colombian electricity market and its commitment to the development of renewable energy in the country.

Christian Llull, Country Manager of ABO Wind Colombia, was pleased to have reached this agreement.

“ABO Wind is an important developer in the country with a portfolio of 500MWp of solar projects under development. The PPA for the 19.9MW project is another step forward to promote the energy transition in Colombia,” Llull highlighted.

Llull said that this project has the potential to drive the reactivation of the post Covid-19 labor market in the region.

Bottom-Line: Colombia’s renewable energy sector is awakening the interest of heavy players worldwide thanks to its enormous potential.

The government must create the perfect scenario to encourage more investments and accompany the development of these projects in the country.
