Energía de Pereira inaugurated its first Solar Photovoltaic Farm.
This facility is the first in the Eje Cafetero and the first in Colombia on the side of a mountain, Valora Analitik reported.
The Granja Solar Energía de Pereira was built at kilometer 4 via Combia in the municipality of Pereira. It occupies seven hectares and is distributed in three lots: Barranquero with 5,130 solar panels, Granadilla with 2,700 solar panels and Colibrí with 7,830 panels, for a total of 15,660 panels.
This facility has a total installed capacity of 6.24 megawatts peak, which will generate approximately 10.8 gigawatt hours per year, equivalent to the permanent consumption of 7,300 homes.
“The inauguration of this solar farm will allow us to expand the installed capacity of renewable energies in our electricity matrix, making it more resilient and environmentally friendly,” Minister of Mines and Energy (MinEnergia), Diego Mesa, said.
Energía de Pereira developed the project in an environmentally friendly way, studying the biodiversity of the site and creating an integral ecosystem, where fruit trees have also been planted to recover the land.
The solar farm joins nine other solar photovoltaic systems that Energía de Pereira has already installed in important places in the city, such as: Matecaña International Airport (1,454 panels), El Bioparque Ukumarí (577 panels), Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira (2,070 panels), Universidad Libre (488 panels), Viva Cerritos aqueduct (560 panels), Alcides Arévalo Shopping Center (112 panels), Victoria Shopping Center (548 panels), Cerritos del Mar (84 panels) and Liceo Pino Verde (114 panels).
Energía de Pereira plans to triple this installed capacity in the next 5 years, generating more than 20% of the energy demand required by the municipality of Pereira.
