Hitachi ABB Power Grids will support Grupo Energía Bogotá (GEB) in the design, manufacture, transportation, installation consultancy, training and delivery of the power reactors for the 500kV single-phase line and ground for a transmission line in La Guajira.
The project is the “500 kV Collector Substation and Collector – Cuestecitas and Cuestecitas – La Loma 500 kV Transmission Lines”, La Republica reported.
This project was awarded by UPME in 2019 and is part of the renewable auction that took place that year.
“This project drives the transition from an energy system coming from fossil fuels to one based on unconventional renewable sources, and will allow for a highly reliable electricity supply,” Diego Efrain Garcia, Project Manager, said.
The expert said that the Colectora project seeks to connect seven wind farms to the SIN with a capacity of 1,050MW.
“With this energy, about 10% of the country’s electricity demand could be met,” Garcia said.
The project covers a distance of 475km of transmission lines divided into two sections: Colectora-Cuestecitas, of 114km and where the Colectora and Cuestecitas substations will be located, and Cuestecitas-La Loma, which will have a 247km double circuit line where the La Loma substation is located.
Bottom-Line: La Guajira is one of the regions with the greatest potential for renewable energy, and these projects will contribute to the growth and development of this important department.
Renewable energies represent a great opportunity for the region and the country in general, but authorities must include the communities in this process to avoid problems in the development of the projects.
